Donate your Wedding Dress in Aid of a Children's Orphanage

Westminster Weddings Nairobi Kenya:
Working in Support of the the Kenya Children's Home
www.kenyachildrenshome.org.uk

After the wedding many women keep their dress as a memento of what has been a special day in their lives. This usually means storing it in the wardrobe for years and perhaps even passing it on to the next generation. Some will never wear the dress again.

However it is now becoming a minor fad to 'trash the dress' when the wedding is over by being photographed in water for example. I prefer the 'Cherish the Dress' shoot.

If neither of these options appeal to you how about taking up a very well thought out alternative, initiated by the Perth based Balcraig Foundation. Donate your dress to a project that aims to improve financial independence and sustainability of an orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya.

If you go to the www.kenyachildrenshome.org.uk web site you will see that the foundation aims to create projects that will be beneficial to the orphanage and the local community and very importantly be sustainable.

'Westminster weddings' is one such project. Bridalwear and men's outfits are hired, and the venue and marquees, catering, wedding cakes, and a bridal car are provided. Guests can then be transported using the school buses. It is the complete package and even provides entertainment and floral decorations.

This is where your dress could be very helpful. If you donate your dress it will be taken to Nairobi by a visiting volunteer. It will then be hired out to raise much needed money for the orphanage.

If you would like to read more about this particular project go to the Westminster weddings page on the foundation's web site.(click here >)

The foundation also has other good ideas. Take for example the Kelvin Loaf project supported by Kelvinside Academy in Glasgow.

You might possibly have heard of Kibera one of the poorest areas of Nairobi where many people cannot afford to buy a whole loaf.

Loaves produced as part of this project are sold and others are distributed to this and other orphanages or given to the destitute.
